No. 1 Myers Park blows past Olympics, readies for No. 2 Carmel

If Friday’s game with previously unbeaten Olympic High was supposed to be a trap game, nationally ranked Myers Park sure didn’t seem to get the message.

Less than 24 hours away from Saturday’s highly-anticipated showdown with Carmel Christian, Myers Park routed Olympic 82-64 in front of a standing room only sold out crowd at home. Myers Park won its seventh straight game.

Fans were stuck outside unable to get well before the game tipped off.

Myers Park (13-3, 6-0 SoMECK) ran out to a 38-9 lead to start the game with a run of fast breaks, dunks and 3-point shots. Olympic (17-1, 5-1) jumped into some national polls this week, inside the top 50, but struggled to get quality field goal attempts up as Myers Park was running away.

Myers Park entered the game No. 25 in MaxPreps national rankings. Olympic was No. 38.

Saturday’s game at Carmel Christian tips off at 7:30 p.m and is sure to sell out well before that, as its the featured game of the Phenom Hoops MLK Shootout (full schedule below).

Myers Park is No. 1 in The Observer’s Sweet 16, and Carmel Christian is No. 2. Both teams sit atop the N.C. rankings for public 4A and private schools.
