Charlotte Latin wins NCISAA state wrestling title

Charlotte Latin had top-six finishers in 11 of weight classes Friday and outdistanced the field, capturing the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association state wrestling championship in Raleigh.

The Hawks had only one weight class champion – junior Ethan Randall at 122 pounds – but they had four wrestlers finish in second place, four more third, and one each in fourth and fifth places.

That helped them pile up 232 points, well ahead of second-place Providence Day (138.5).

The Chargers won a tight battle for the runner-up spot, with Metrolina Christian and Rabun Gap School tying for third place with 137 points.

The Charlotte area had eight state champions.

Providence Day and Charlotte Country Day each had a pair of champions, while Charlotte Latin, Metrolina Christian, Charlotte Christian and Cannon School had one apiece.
